SUMMARY:Transition Series 101: From Learning to Launching
DESCRIPTION:  \nWhat happens when school ends? For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families\, the transition from school-provided services to adult life can bring a lot of questions\, and finding the right resources can make all the difference. \nJoin The Arc of Northern Virginia for our Annual Transition Series\, a program designed to educate and empower individuals with disabilities and their families as they navigate the transition to adult\, community-based services. \nJoin us for this in-person closing session to connect\, reflect\, and plan for what’s next on December 5\, 2026. There will be presentations for families from 9:00–11:00am\, followed by a Mini-Resource Fair from 11:00am–12:00pm. The fair will bring together local service providers and support organizations\, giving families an opportunity to learn about available resources\, ask questions and make connections with organizations that can help as they plan for life after school. \nSaturday\, December 5\n9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.\nThe Arc of Northern Virginia\n3060 Williams Drive\, Suite 300\, Fairfax\, VA \nWhether you’re just beginning to think about the transition or already making plans for life after high school\, this series will offer information\, resources and connections to help you move forward. DESCRIPTION:  \nTransition Lunch and Learn is held on the second Thursday of the month\, facilitated by Diane Monnig\, Director of Programs. These sessions are not recorded. \nPlanning to transition from school to adult services can be overwhelming. Once your child exits the school system\, adult services are based on eligibility criteria and funding availability. These small group sessions are an opportunity to begin creating a plan for the future. Learn what employment and meaningful day support services are available\, how to explore post-secondary options\, what transportation supports exist\, how to help your child make decisions and advocate\, when to apply for SSI and manage benefits\, and what recreation activities are available. This informal opportunity is to ask questions and discuss with the facilitator and other participants. \n\n					\n				Register Now
