Our state General Assembly begins tomorrow and in 45 short days, they will pass every law that will pass this year and come up with a state budget.  It is a whirlwind and a critical time for advocacy.
This year, we’re having our Annual Developmental Disabilities Advocacy Day in Richmond on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.  We’ll leave our office in Falls Church by charter bus (with wifi!) at 6:45 AM and arrive back here by 4 PM after a full day of meeting with our key legislators in Richmond.

Advocates Unite! Join us on our annual bus trip to Richmond to advocate on Virginia’s Capitol Hill!. Join our group to meet your legislator, visit a live legislative hearing, have lunch with a Senator, then go home to know you made a difference by changing the face of disability services in Virginia.

We also have some people driving themselves to Richmond and meeting us there to team up.  We welcome anyone and everyone and are happy to offer a bus ride to anyone who wants to join us!

More information about the day is on the flyer attached.  Please let me know if you’re able to join us for this very powerful day of change.  We’re fighting to avoid a proposed $10 million cut to Waiver services, to increase Waiver slots, for early intervention, school inclusion, and more.
I hope you can join us and will spread the word about this critical day!
Best,
Lucy Beadnell, Director of Advocacy

Hop on a FREE bus leaving The Arc of Northern Virginia at 6:45 AM on the Tuesday, January 31st for statewide DD Advocacy Day! We’ll spend the day working in small teams and meeting with legislators, then having a rally with disability advocates from across the state. We need people who want to speak, people who want to learn, and anyone who wants to make change to join us. We will return to The Arc around 4 PM. It is a busy, fun day that makes a big impact. Having a crowd makes and impression and ensures we won’t be forgotten in Richmond.

This year we will also have several day long trips to Richmond with small groups so our issues aren’t forgotten after DD Advocacy Day. Let us know if you’d like to join these casual but important day trips! Dates TBD from January 12th-February 23rd.
