From Referral to Recommendations: Navigating the Diagnosis and Assessment Process

Navigating the diagnostic assessment process can feel overwhelming, especially when families are unsure where to begin. This presentation will help families understand when a comprehensive evaluation may be appropriate, the different pathways to obtaining an assessment, and what to expect throughout the evaluation process. We will discuss community-based, hospital-based, and private practice evaluation options, as well as waiver programs and other community resources available to individuals with developmental disabilities. We will also review the types of services, supports, accommodations, and resources that may become available following an evaluation, and how assessment results can be used to inform individualized recommendations at home, in school, and throughout the community.
