Our goal at The Arc of Northern Virginia is to work with families and individuals with disabilities on planning for the ‘now’ as well as the future. It is important to ensure that your son or daughter is financially secure when you can no longer provide help. Our Special Needs Trust (SNT) helps families provide for the financial future of their loved one without affecting their eligibility to government benefits.

The Arc of Northern Virginia Personal Support Trusts enables people with disabilities to derive the greatest possible benefit from family money, financial settlements, financial gifts and other awards of money and assets, in addition to any public benefits and services to which they have entitlement. By appropriately using this Trust government benefits are not jeopardized. People also use the Trust for money management and budgeting purposes.

Established in 1999, the Personal Support Trust is a Special Needs Trust (SNT) Program designed to improve the quality of life for all individuals with disabilities while providing resources for their ongoing supplemental needs. Our special needs trusts are managed by The Arc of Northern Virginia, with pre-approval from the Social Security Administration, the Virginia Department of Social Services, the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, and courts in Washington DC. The goal of the SNT Program is to provide financial security to all people with disabilities, and thus a higher quality of life, knowing that their public benefits are safeguarded
