Leah Zhang, a Junior at Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, VA and Co-President of their Assistive Technology Club, reached out to The Arc of Northern Virginia to present an idea on a fundraiser. Leah is no stranger to be of service to people with disabilities. During her Assistive Technology Club meetings, she and other members help students with disabilities gain proficiency in using their tablets to speak with an assistive technology tool called nuVoice.

Outside of school, Leah is an artist and has organized an art show at The Reston Art Gallery entitled “AI and US” to benefit The Arc of Northern Virginia. This week-long pop-up exhibit will take place from February 24th to March 3rd from noon to 5 pm daily. On Sunday, March 3rd there will be a reception from 2 to 4 pm.

This art exhibit explores AI’s impact on art and ourselves. The goal is to raise awareness while also sharing the anxieties and inspiration that come with this exciting – and often unnerving innovation in our lives.

At the reception on March 3rd from 2 to 4 pm, The Arc of Northern Virginia will provide a staffed information table, welcome remarks about our organization, and a look at our assistive technology app called “Arc2 Independence.” We hope you can join us for the reception or during the week. One hundred percent of all sales will benefit The Arc of Northern Virginia.

The “AI and US” exhibit will be at The Reston Art Gallery, which is located at 11400 Washington Plaza West (Lake Level) in Reston, Virginia. Admission is free. Please park in the upper parking lot rather than the one for residents in front of the building. To get to the Gallery, go down the stairs next to the building to the lake. RAGS is next to the sign with ART in bright orange letters. Alternatively, park in the commercial lot for Lake Anne Plaza and look for RAGS just beyond the Brew Pub and Barber shop on the right side of the lake.

To RSVP for the reception on March 3, please send the number of people attending in an email to Laura Allen, Special Events Manager, at laura.allen@thearcofnova.org.
