ada workshop series

The Arc of Northern Virginia is excited to be partnering with the Mid-Atlantic ADA Leadership Network to offer a free training series on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). While there is general awareness of the act, many people are unfamiliar with what it actually covers. And an even greater number don’t realize what the ADA does for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These workshops will help bring all of this valuable information to light.

Session 1:
The ADA: An Overview of the Civil Rights Law with a Focus on People with Developmental Disabilities
Wednesday, September 18, 2019 – 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.

We begin with this session on an ADA overview, focusing on how the law most significantly impacts people with developmental disabilities. Bring your questions on how the ADA protects you in employment, school, post-secondary education, the community, and more.

Session 2:
The ADA: Transitioning Out of School for Students with Developmental Disabilities
Monday, November 18, 2019 – 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.

This session will focus on how the Americans with Disabilities Act offers protections for students transitioning out of school to post-secondary education, employment, or other opportunities. Bring your questions on how the ADA protects transitioning students.

Session 3:
The ADA: Employment Rights and Protections for People with Developmental Disabilities
Tuesday, January 14, 2020 – 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.

This third session in the series will focus on how the Americans with Disabilities Act offers protections for people with developmental disabilities who are looking for work or employed. Bring your questions on how the ADA protects workers with disabilities.

Session 4:
The ADA: A Recap in Plain Language
Monday, March 16, 2020 – 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.

The last workshop will focus on how the Americans with Disabilities Act offers protections for people with developmental disabilities in all parts of life. This session will focus on using clear, simple language and pictures to describe what the ADA offers.
