The Arc of Virginia State Executive Director, Jamie Liban, just shared the message below with us.  Our House and Senate are voting to keep open Training Centers for people with disabilities.  This flies in the face of decades of civil rights progress, our DOJ settlement, the people who have already moved out so successfully, and the 11,132 people on the waiting list for a DD Waiver.
Votes will be happening on this issue rapidly.  PLEASE find a time to call the Delegates below EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT IN THEIR DISTRICT.  We want to flood them with calls and emails.  Please take a few minutes and ask for closure of our training centers and Community for All!

The Senate Finance Committee PASSED SB1551, the bill to keep CVTC  open.  Last night (Jan 31, 2017), members of the House Appropriations HHR Subcommittee indicated that they are having similar conversations about keeping South Western Virginia Training Center open.  Members of the money committees are literally writing the budget bill as we speak.  Due to timing of deliberations, we are focusing on the House side.  EVERYONE on the list does need lots of calls though- right away.   Even if you met with them yesterday, it is still important to call.

We will be walking the halls attempting to meet with as many of these legislators as possible, but it is absolutely ESSENTIAL that they their offices receive lots of calls in the next 24-36 hours.    If you do not have one of these legislators, please pick one of the legislators (or more) on the list and call anyway.  Please be sure to call your Delegate and Senator too, asking them to OPPOSE efforts to keep Training Centers open and SUPPORT community based services.  To find out who your legislator is http://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/
