Our Gala theme of “Illuminating Inclusion” encapsulates our dedication to fostering a community where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive and contribute meaningfully.

The Gala helps raise important funds that help make possible all of our programs, services, and advocacy education for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages and their families. This special event will bring together hundreds of community members, elected officials, and leaders in the business and philanthropic communities, alongside our longstanding supporters and partners.

INTRODUCING OUR MASTER OF CEREMONIES

Frank Stephens, Global Disability Self-Advocate

Frank Stephens is a passionate and positive spokesperson and self-advocate for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. His eloquence and commitment caught the public’s attention in 2012 when he went public with an open letter regarding the use of ableist slurs in public discourse. Since that time, he has become a respected voice in the public discourse around disability issues, serving as an ambassador for Global Down Syndrome Foundation and testifying at the first U.S. congressional hearing for Down syndrome research. He is also an actor and an athlete, now serving on the board of Special Olympics Virginia.

“If you take one thing away from today, I want you to know that I am a man with Down syndrome and my life is worth living.” – Frank Stephens
