Overview Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Advocacy, primary duties will involve assisting people with developmental disabilities (DD), their loved ones, and professionals in the field with navigating resources and services for the person with a disability.  We understand these areas of support can be overwhelming, and are seeking someone with personal experience doing this navigation to help other families on the journey.  Our DD Community Resource Navigator will offer personalized consultations to people with disabilities and their loved ones as they struggle to navigate and oversee quality support services, in addition to answering their follow up questions and otherwise directing them to relevant information and resources.

Job Function and Roles:

  • Respond in a timely manner to phone, email, and other inquiries made to The Arc of Northern Virginia by people seeking conversations and information about disability services and resources
  • Meet personally, virtually and/or in person, with people with DD and their support networks to explain community-based, inclusive service options
  • Creating new short (1-3 page) resource guides to help people navigate common concerns, and annually update all existing written and video resources
  • Create and give presentations to families and groups on basic disability service topics
  • Representing The Arc of Northern Virginia at outreach events
  • Working with partners and otherwise exploring resources to ensure all most recent information about local and national best-practices and options are being shared with the DD community
  • Other duties as assigned
