About the Program
Our Guardianship Program takes a person-centered approach, providing advocacy, care coordination, and decision-making support for individuals who are unable to manage these responsibilities independently. We are committed to protecting our clients’ rights, dignity, and well-being, while ensuring they receive consistent, high-quality care and support.
Position Overview
The Internship offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in human services, social work, psychology, or related disciplines. Interns will be exposed to guardianship practices, client advocacy, and case management, while learning how consistent and ethical support improves outcomes for vulnerable individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with case management tasks under staff supervision.
- Observe guardianship proceedings, staff meetings, and client interactions.
- Carry a small caseload under the direct supervision of the Program Director.
- Support staff in preparing documentation, reports, and resource materials.
- Conduct research on community resources and client support strategies.
- Shadow guardians to gain real-world experience in the role.
- Contribute to program development initiatives and new projects.
Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of the internship, students will:
- Understand the role of guardianship in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and complex needs.
- Gain practical knowledge of advocacy, ethics, and legal considerations in the human services settings.
- Strengthen organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Build applied experience that supports future careers in social work, psychology, law, nonprofit management, or related fields.
Qualifications
- Current student in social work, psychology, human services, or related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
- Interest in client advocacy, human services, and nonprofit work.
Internship Details
- Duration: One academic semester. (If two internships/placements are required, both can be completed with our program.)
- Hours: Flexible scheduling available to accommodate academic requirements.
- Location: Hybrid – includes community visits with clients, in-office work twice a month, and remote tasks.
- Supervision: Direct supervision by the Program Director, with scheduled weekly or required supervision hours that include feedback and mentoring.
