Advocacy
At The Arc of Northern Virginia, we speak out on issues that affect large portions of our disability community, like waivers, job supports, and early intervention. We engage in systems-level advocacy activities focused at the state and local level. Occasionally, we will join our national organization to support some advocacy efforts on the federal level. These advocacy activities are undertaken with the goal of creating meaningful change for all families and individuals with IDD, not individual cases.

DD Waiver Support Coordination
Our Services Team works hard to help people get the supports they need for the life they want. The Arc of Northern Virginia is a Support Coordination contractor for several regional CSBs, to offer services to individuals who are actively receiving a Medicaid Waiver.

Information & Referral
When people with disabilities and their families have questions, we are happy to help them locate services, navigate challenging situations, and share helpful tips. Our online Ask the Arc portal will give you an automated reply with helpful information and a member of our expert staff team will personally follow up to help you find what you need. You can come to a free workshop or on a webinar to learn about a range of topics from field experts.

Public Guardianship
The Arc of Northern Virginia is a state-designated Public Guardianship provider. The program currently serves 48 men and women who require additional support for making critical life decisions, but have no other appropriate individuals in their lives or resources to hire a private guardian to serve in this capacity.

Special Needs Trust
Our Special Needs Trust exists to assist people with disabilities and their families in saving money for the future without losing public benefits, like Medicaid and Social Security that have strict asset caps. The funds invested in the trust will be used to provide security, support, services, and medical care or other supplemental needs not covered by benefits or insurance.

Tech for Independent Living
The Tech for Independent Living Team creates free fully customized virtual lessons that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to create full inclusion and participation in the community. They create lessons that help with traveling, employment, safety as well as daily living skills through our software partnership.
