Transition Series is our annual event designed to educate and empower families and individuals with disabilities as they transition from school-provided services to community-based services for adults.

This October, The Arc of Northern Virginia’s Transition Series returns with a brand-new format designed to meet families and professionals where they are. With customized tracks based on each participant’s goals – like planning for the future, finding a job, or exploring college – this series offers tailored guidance, expert-led webinars, and real-life insights. Kicking off with a required in-person session and parent panel, the series continues with weekly live (and recorded) webinars covering essential topics like Medicaid waivers, supported decision-making, vocational services, and more.

The Arc of Northern Virginia’s Annual Transition Series is designed to:

  • Educate and empower parents of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they transition from school-provided services to community-based services for adults
  • Inform and provide resources to teachers, transition representatives, and other professionals working with students and their families as they transition from school to adult life.

  •  Supported Decision Making & Legal Authority
  •  Medicaid waivers 
  •  SSI and SSDI
  •  Special needs trusts and ABLE accounts
  •  Pre-ETS and Vocational Services from DARS
  •  Future Planning

The 2025 Transition Series Kick-Off will be held on October 4th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. in-person at The Arc of Northern Virginia’s offices, located at 3060 Williams Drive, Suite 300, Fairfax, VA 22031. To participate in the Transition Series, attendance is mandatory for the in-person Kick-Off session on October 4th.  Space is limited.

October 4th Schedule

  • 8:30-9:00 Registration and Check-In (Coffee and Refreshments Available)
  • 9:00-10:00 Welcome and Introduction to Transition and Overview of the Series
  • 10:00-11:00 Parent Panel Discussion on Transition Experiences
  • 11:00-11:30 Visit Resource Tables 

All webinars will be held throughout the month of October. The schedule is TBD. Participants are encouraged to attend the live webinars, but all recordings will be made available to registrants.

Participants will:

  • Receive a Customized Schedule of Webinars
  • Receive a Customized Binder of Corresponding Resources
  • Be Eligible to Participate in The Arc of Northern Virginia’s 2025 Transition Series What’s App Group 
  • Receive access to all recorded webinars and companion materials

Registration Fee is $35. Scholarships are available if needed, just ask! Space is limited.
